Welcome John Muir Eagles to the 2016-17 school year! I am looking forward to another great year! We will continue John Muir's long history of success that has been built on traditions that have provided students with exceptional instruction in a warm and caring environment.
John Muir is now a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) focused school, creating a pathway through Project Lead the Way. This year we will have two classes in grades 3-5th that will begin STEM modules. It is our desire and commitment to provide Muir students with a 21st Century education emphasizing Creativity, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Communication. Eventually, it is our goal to have STEM in all grades k-5th grades. Also, we offer AVID in all 4th/5th grades. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) teaches skills and behaviors to prepare our students for college readiness in a global society. In addition, all students in 3rd-5th grades have 1:1 chromebooks in their classrooms. This year we will be receiving chromebooks for our 2nd graders! At John Muir, it is our desire that students become lifelong self-directed learners who are responsible citizens, fluent readers, problem solvers, technologically aware and effective communicators prepared for college and careers.
Research and experience shows us that a parent or guardian's involvement in a child's education is directly related to his/her success in school. To maximize your child's success, please emphasize the importance of education through the following:
- Ensure that your child is at school and on time each day
- Attend parent/teacher conference and school events
- Expect and support positive behavior at school
- Read with your child or encourage your child to read daily
- Monitor your child's homework daily
We look forward to continuing in the partnership of involvement and support that we have experienced from parents and the community at Muir. It is our hope that each of you visits our school and participates in school events during this school year. There are numerous volunteer opportunities on campus including joining our PTA, school site council, assisting with our carnival and helping out in your child's classroom. If you are able to volunteer in your child's classroom, please pick up a volunteer form in our office.
By working together in a
cooperative spirit we expect to achieve wonderful things for our students again
this year! I am honored to be a part of the important work
that takes place on a daily basis and to be working with such a dedicated group
of professionals, curious and engaged students and supportive parents! I
look forward to meeting and working with you this year.
