Santa Ana Unified School District Governing Board
The Governing Board of the Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) is elected by the community to provide leadership, direction, and citizen oversight of the District’s schools and operations. As representatives of the community, Board Members are entrusted with ensuring that SAUSD remains focused on student success, educational equity, fiscal responsibility, and community engagement.
Working in close partnership with the Superintendent, the Board fulfills its core responsibilities by:

Setting Vision and Direction
Establishing long-term goals and priorities that guide instructional programs, student services, and operational planning to ensure all students are prepared for college, career, and life success. -
Developing Policy and Governance Structures
Creating and adopting policies that define the District’s organizational framework, support effective teaching and learning, and provide clear expectations for schools, employees, and programs. -
Ensuring Accountability
Monitoring student achievement, financial health, operational performance, and compliance with state and federal requirements to guarantee that resources are used effectively and equitably. -
Advocating for Public Education
Serving as visible and active leaders in the community by promoting the value of public education, building partnerships, and engaging families, staff, and local stakeholders in support of SAUSD schools. -
Stewarding Resources Responsibly
Approving budgets, contracts, and initiatives that align with the District’s mission while ensuring transparency, equity, and fiscal sustainability.
Through these roles, the SAUSD Governing Board works to uphold the District’s mission of providing high-quality, equitable, and innovative learning opportunities for every student in Santa Ana.
