Ms. Susana Herrera
Ms. Herrera is the Title 1 EL Coordinator. She is willing to assist students and parents with questions about ELPAC testing, which is the test newcomers and English learners take. She is also part of ELAC which is a parent group that helps make school site decisions. Ms. Herrera graduated from CSULB as an English major and with a single subject credential. Parents and students can rely on her kindness and knowledge to assist them in learning English and graduating High School. As an English teacher for 14 years she has taught from 7th grade to 12th grade as well as drama. I worked as a college aide during college for the Long Beach Unified School District, then student taught in Long Beach at my Alma Mater Millikan. My first year teaching was at Markham Middle school in LAUSD before becoming displaced and getting a job in Santa Ana at Century. I am very dedicated to my students and profession and just began a new position as the Title III resource teacher. In this new role I focus on: small group instruction, assisting teachers in pull-out and push-in instruction, and student interventions, as well as focusing on the 9th grade class to improve the foundation for their success trajectory beyond high school.
La Sra. Herrera es la Coordinadora de Título 1. Mr. Smith is our ELD A Support teacher. He is athletic and enjoys trail riding
whenever he has the chance to do so. He has been a part of the program for the last two years and enjoys seeing the progress our newcomers have as they learn how to speak the language. He has students practice oral fluency in his class with a lot of formal and informal presentations.
El señor. Smith es nuestro maestro de apoyo de ELD A. Es atlético y disfruta de los senderos. siempre que tenga la oportunidad de hacerlo. Tutor/Mentors
The tutor/Mentors are a group of individuals that work together to assist in small group and one-on-one tutoring for our newcomers and English learners. They assist students in learning study skills, writing, as well as other skills needed to be successful in high school and beyond. Most of our tutor/mentors speak both English and Spanish and may be placed in their ELD classes as an extra support.
Los tutores / mentores son un grupo de personas que trabajan juntas para ayudar en grupos pequeños y tutorías individuales para nuestros recién llegados y aprendices de inglés. Ayudan a los estudiantes a aprender habilidades de estudio, escritura y otras habilidades necesarias para tener éxito en la escuela secundaria y más allá. La mayoría de nuestros tutores / mentores hablan inglés y español y pueden ser ubicados en sus clases de ELD como un apoyo adicional.
