Dr. Walter Nixon II
Hello and thank you for visiting my page! I am in my 22nd year as a teacher with Santa Ana Unified School District. Teaching for the past 21 years at SAUSD, first for 17 years at Sierra Preparatory Academy and now for the past 4 years at Hector F. Godinez Fundamental High School, has been filled with extraordinary teaching and learning experiences that make me proud as an educator and human being. Prior to joining the staff at Sierra as a special education teacher and cross-country coach, I worked for 7 years at a nonpublic school teaching and mentoring students in a restorative capacity.
Mathematics education is my academic passion, from basic math computation to algebra. Social-emotional learning, empathy, and emotional intelligence are my superpowers! My personal interests span a broad range of ideas and places relating to people and processes. As an undergraduate student, I studied philosophy while focusing on logic, which piqued my love of conceptual math. Working with disadvantaged young people became a passion as I pursued a master's degree in special education at National University to earn a teaching credential. Since finishing my doctoral degree in Educational Leadership at Concordia University, Irvine, I have continued implementing lessons in my classroom as well as professional development around the SEL framework.
Let's take a deep dive into learning through the lens of community health as wealth...
