We celebrate this day because this man, Harvey Milk, stood up for what he believed he could accomplish. Harvey Milk was a homosexual man who stood up for the rights of the LGBTQ community in California. He gave an inspiring speech to the people called, “The HOPE Speech.” It motivated many people in the LGBTQ community in San Francisco to fight for their freedom. Sadly, he was assassinated in November of 1978 for standing up for LGBTQ rights. Harvey Milk was such an amazing and brave person. Now California has the most laws protecting LGBTQ students, and that is why we celebrate him today.
