Mr. Thomas Nusbickel AIA

Hi! I was born right here in Orange County back in 1953. My formal education started at Fern Drive Elementary School in Fullerton. The family moved from the West to the East side of town and where I graduated from Raymond Ave. Elementary School. I moved on to Ladera Vista Middle School, Troy High School, Fullerton College and then Arizona State University where I recieved a Bachlor of Architecture degree (5year) in 1976. Frther education was on an "as needed" basis.

I have been lucky enough to have had two careers. Architect and Teacher. As an Architect I joined Ralph Allen & Partners in 1977 and rose to be Vice President and Partner Specializing in design and special projects. I was the American Institute of Architects Orange County Chapter President and member of the California Council's Board of Directors. One of my favorite projects while at Ralph Allen's was to help design and prepare the drawings for Century High School. While working I became envolved in ACE Mentors, a program designed to introduce students to the Construction Industry. As team leader right here at Centry we had some great teams including a team that placed 3rd in the country for our design project. Three century team members went to Washington DC for the final presentations. After Mr. Allen retired and the firm closed it's doors, I was told of the opening of Century's new Engineering Design Academy and with the encouragement of Rebecka Holliman and Lucinda Pueblos as well as the Director of SAUSD ROP, Patricia Carter, I was brought on to be the engineering teacher.

I have done many different things in my life all steming from a curiosity of an Architect, and a problem solver. I was a Boy Scout raising to the rank of Eagle Scout. I took leadership training in New Mexico. I raced Powerboats and Radio Controlled Cars. I've traveled all around the country and Europe. I watch the Space Shuttle land twice and gone white water rafting.

Now I am dividing my time between teaching the engineering design process and advising the Century Race Team. My wife and I are enjoying our new adopted grandaughter. Also come the holiday season I have been known to morph into a joy old elf in a red suit and hat ho-ho-hoing down the halls and laughing all the way.

I hope to enlighten my students, igniting the flame of curiosity and ceativity that can help them achieve anything they want to do in the future.
