English 10 Course Syllabus
Course Description: English 10 is a one-year course that focuses on reading and analyzing fiction and nonfiction. The course provides practice with the writing process that emphasizes: prewriting, drafting, sharing and responding, revising, editing, and publishing. Students respond to texts through speaking and writing, supporting their ideas with evidence. The writing component of the course will include multiple literary analysis essays and argumentative essays. The ultimate goal of English 10 is to prepare students to be better writers, readers, and thinkers and to prepare them for college and beyond.

- To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

- Short Story Fridays
- Book Clubs
- Poetry analysis
Grammar:
- Focus on sentence structure (subject/predicate, sentence combining, etc.)
- Grammar in the context of student’s writing
- Preparing them for English 101
