After a year of planning, the City of Santa Ana has been awarded a Prop 84 Grant by the State of California Office of Grants and Local Services. The $5 million grant was designated to develop a joint use 2.7-acre park at Roosevelt Elementary School. Improvements will include:
· 5,000 square foot Community Center
· 3 Pre-Kindergarten classrooms
· 2 Tot-lots with playground equipment
· Outdoor basketball/volleyball courts with sports lighting
· Multi-purpose sports field with decomposed granite walking/jogging track
· Security lighting
· Parking lot
· New landscaping
The community center will be open for public use during and after school hours. The City’s partnership with the Santa Ana Unified School District played a pivotal role in receiving the highest grant amount an agency may receive. Four hundred (400) applications were submitted to the State and only 64 applications were awarded grants, totaling $1.3 billion. District and City staff will meet to finalize the joint use agreement, the agreement for reimbursement of construction costs, and other documents for Board approval. Construction on the site is anticipated to begin in summer 2014.
