After School Education & Safety Program

The After School Education and Safety Program is funded through Proposition 49 pursuant to Education Code 8482-8484.6. The purpose of the program is to provide literacy and academic support and enrichment and safe, constructive alternatives for students. All of our programs are supported by collaborative partnerships between program administration and staff, school site administration and staff, site coordinators, instructional providers, parents, students, volunteers, community–based organizations and service providers. The goal of the After School Program is to provide students with extended opportunities for increased academic achievement, personal growth, and social growth.

Program Elements

  • Students in the program are provided with a nutritious snack that meets the guidelines of the District Wellness Policy, and Education Code Nutrition Standards.
  • Program must provide tutoring and homework assistance in one or more of the following academic areas: language arts, mathematics, history/social science, computer training, or science.
  • In addition to academic support, SAUSD programs must also offer a variety of enrichment activities. Some activities offered are fine arts, career education, recreation, physical fitness, dance, karate, scouting and prevention activities. Activities vary by site.
