Closing the Latino Achievement Gap
Orange County 2011 Summit |
On September 30, SAUSD joined Santa Ana College in hosting some 400 federal, state, and local educational and community leaders, parents, and students to address challenges, data and projections, solutions, and best practices for bridging the achievement gap.
The Closing the Latino Achievement Gap Orange County 2011 Summit featured a cadre of experts in the field of Latino educational issues, student voices and break-out sessions. Keynote speakers included:
- Juan Sepúlveda, Director – White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans;
- Patricia Gándara, Ph.D., leading UCLA researcher on educational equity who specializes in addressing the needs of the long-term English learner; and
- Jose Moreno, E.d.D., CSU Long Beach Associate Professor and Los Amigos President.
Both SAUSD and Santa Ana College are continuing the commitment to working toward closing the Latino achievement gap through various partnerships and initiatives. We thank all our conference participants and dedicated sponsors, who also have joined with us to improve the educational process.
